Once upon a time... in the green valleys of Burgundy, the Kingdom of France gave a domain to a feudal lord :
the "DOMAINE DE DREUZY".
In 1815, a young noble officer named Franz Heinrich von Ehrenfeld settled there, while he led an Austrian Uhlan troop fighting against Napoleon. The Baron fell in love with the daughter of the house, Elisabeth Aubépin de Lamothe Dreuzy and took her as his wife. From this union a girl was born, named Louise, who became by marriage Comtesse de Malart. In 1867, the young couple built the "Nouveau Château de Dreuzy", an impressive Mansion with dwellings for servants and stabling around an open yard.
   
adapted to the latest security standards, guaranteed by the quality label "GITES DE FRANCE". Ceilings with exposed beams, small square panned windows, flag-stoned or terracota tiled floors, heavy oak wooden doors... all in perfect harmony with modern comfort and practical living.
Nowadays this Mansion no longer exists, but the gatehouse and the gardener's house were recently restored and have become lovely country houses for holidaymakers. Original features and traditional materials have been used in the restauration and

Places worth seeing around Dreuzy :
"Parc Regional du Morvan" with lakes and plenty of walking trails in an unspoiled countryside ; the forest of Bertranges (hunting) ; lakes for swimming,  sailing and fishing ; the landscape of Vézelay (starting-point of the important pilgrimages down to Saint-Jacques de Compostelle) , its basilica and... right next door one of the most famous restaurants of France "L'Espérance" (chief : Marc Meneau) ; Nevers, town of art and history, with the shrine of Sainte Bernadette, interesting museums, picturesque quarters in the old city ; the circuit of Magny-Cours and its Grand Prix de France Formule I ; the bastians of French vineyards such as the Loire and Bourgogne ; the Canal du Nivernais just five minutes away from your country house ; Compierre, a Gallo-Roman city amidst the woods ; Château Vauban in the lovely village of Bazoches ; the magnificent Roman church in Saint-Reverien ; somewhat further, the amazing building site of middle-aged castle of Guédelon.
